One in 8 women will be told that they have breast cancer in their lifetime.
I am one.
On Christmas Eve, I learned that the ultrasound of the lump I felt myself had a 97% certainty of being breast cancer and by New Years that was confirmed. This year has been a compete whirlwind!
I knew when I was diagnosed that I was going to need support to get through this. My friends and family have been amazing; thank you for all that you have done for me and the support you continue to give me! Early on, I was also connected with the Gloria Gemma Foundation. This has been one of the best things for my healing. Being able to connect with other warriors, that have fought or are fighting, has been an invaluable part of this journey. Many of these women have become my family away from home!
This is my first year carrying a torch for Flames of Hope. The Illuminations of Life Ceremony and Torch Procession at Flames of Hope is a moving experience that promotes awareness, encourages support for people touched by breast cancer and fosters a sense of paying it forward. I am carrying this torch to honor those that are also fighting, who have fought, and to remember those friends that we’ve lost.
It means so much to me to be able to give back to the Gloria Gemma Foundation and know that they will continue to be a resource to me and to other women who are facing this life altering diagnosis.
